On a peninsula on the southern shore of Lake Wörth, the Maria Wörth pilgrimage church towers high. The peninsula can be reached by land or by boat, which makes a visit of the church even more attractive.
Pyramidenkogel
Anyone who has always wanted to go high is in the best hands at the Pyramidenkogel! The impressive structure of almost 100 metres is the world's tallest observation tower made of wood and allows an incredible 360° view over Carinthia. For adrenaline junkies, there are also two exciting alternatives to descending down the spiral staircase: the 120-metre-long spiral adventure slide or, for the very brave ones, the Flying Fox cable car, over which you float 70 metres to the ground.
Hochosterwitz Castle
A historic highlight and well known beyond the borders of Carinthia is the castle Hochosterwitz. Perched on a 150 m high limestone cliff, it impresses from afar and promises a magnificent view. Whether wonderful walks on panoramic paths, adventurous hikes to the summit or directly into the skiing pleasure – fast, comfortable and easy - the Gerlitzen Alpe in the center of Carinthia offers all this and more. During the snowy months of the year the mountain attracts many winter sports enthusiasts, who are brought up to the Kanzelhöhe by Carinthia's oldest mountain railroad and can thus start their pleasure perfectly.
Dobratsch
Directly west to the city of Villach is the Dobratsch Nature Park, the eastern foothills of the Gailtal Alps. The mountain offers with the viewing platform "Rote Wand", the German Church Maria am Stein and Windische Kapelle at the Dobratsch summit and the Alpine Garden with about 800 different alpine plants a multifaceted mountain experience for nature lovers.
High Alpine Roads
Carinthia’s famous high alpine roads promise breathtaking panoramic views. The Nockalm Road winds gently through the rounded Nockberge mountains, while the Villach Alpine Road leads to the Dobratsch massif. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road offers spectacular vistas of Austria’s highest peak, and the Malta High Alpine Road impresses with tunnels, waterfalls, and the striking Kölnbrein Dam.
Obir Stalactite Caves
In southern Carinthia the Obir Stalactite Caves can be found. They are a breathtaking spectacle of nature, because over many thousands of years impressive stalactite formations were formed by infiltrating surface water. The living stones are an absolute rarity in Europe and a fascinating natural jewel in the highest mountain of the Karawanken.
