What goes into a piece of loden?
At the Steiner 1888 loden manufactory in Mandling, you can find out first-hand – and it's a recommendation our Experience Team is always happy to share. Since 1888, premium Schladminger loden has been produced here at the foot of the Dachstein, and the guided tours reveal what usually happens behind closed doors: from raw natural fibre through spinning and weaving to the historic hammer fulling mill, still in operation today and responsible for loden's characteristic texture.
The perfect programme for a rainy day – or simply for anyone who wants to understand why loden has stood for durability, quality, and timeless style for generations. Public tours take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10.00 am and 3.00 pm. Advance booking is recommended. Afterwards, the shop invites you to browse its selection of fabrics, blankets, and accessories.
