The Aurina Valley is one of the side valleys of the Puster Valley, perhaps the wildest and most breathtaking. Past Campo Tures, Lutago and Cadipietra, the road winds between towering mountains and the scenery becomes increasingly spectacular. Until you reach Casere, where the road ends for cars. From here, you continue on foot, to discover wonderful trails. The route heads to Kehreralm via Adleralm and Jagarhutte, making straight for the Vetta d'Italia.

The path follows the shoreline from the very first step. Lake Antholz sits quietly in the Antholz Valley: glacial water, spruce forest, the kind of silence that takes a moment to get used to. The round walk circles the entire lake: around 5 kilometres, mostly flat, easy underfoot. You pass through forest shade and open meadow, always with the water close by. No particular gear required. No summit to reach. Just the lake, the reflection of the mountains in it, and enough time to notice both.

A good hour. Worth every minute of it.

The summit cross of the Astjoch doesn't ask much of you. That's part of the point.

The trail starts in Ellen, near St. Lorenzen, and works its way up through forest and open alpine meadow: past the Roner Alm, past the Starkenfeld hut, then left onto trail No. 67 for the final climb. Moderate, well-marked, manageable. The kind of ascent that lets you keep your eyes on the landscape rather than your feet. Time it right and you arrive at the top as the light shifts. The Odle peaks, Sass de Putia, the Sciliar massif, the Zillertal Alps: all of it laid out to the west, catching the last of the sun. No crowds. No fanfare. Just the moment.

The lake, by foot.

One of the most iconic walks in the Dolomites, and one of the most accessible. Starting from Hotel Lago di Braies, the trail circles the emerald-green lake over 3.6 km with barely 80 metres of elevation. An hour and a half of stillness.

The Zipline Dolomiti park at San Vigilio di Marebbe sits right on the doorstep: a short transfer by shuttle and chairlift from the valley, and then the Dolomites open up below you. Seven routes, speeds reaching 80 km/h, views stretching across the peaks. The longest single line runs 800 metres. You move through larch forest and open alpine sky, the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park spread out on the horizon. It doesn't take long. But it stays with you.

Just a 15-minute walk from the hotel, a small zoo is home to fallow deer, rabbits, ducks, peacocks, and goats. While the park itself cannot be entered, the animals can be admired from outside.
