Grand Cattle Drive St. Gallenkirch
On Saturday 5 September 2026, the annual Alpabtrieb takes place at the Valisera valley station in St. Gallenkirch. From 11 am there is a supporting programme with food and drink, regional specialities, cheese tasting and cheese sales, live music by Alp 3 and face painting for children. At around midday the decorated cattle arrive in the valley: the floral headdress, known locally as the Maien, marks a summer on the alpine pastures that has passed safely and successfully, and the cow with the highest milk yield, the Milchstöfleri, wears the finest decoration of all. The cattle drive is one of the highlights of the Montafon’s traditional calendar and works equally well for children and parents.
