About

The Wörthersee region is a popular vacation spot - especially in summer. The unique location between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, bordering Slovenia and Italy, makes day trips possible and ensures a certain amount of dolce vita in Carinthia. Lake Wörthersee is not only the largest lake in Carinthia, but also one of the warmest alpine lakes in Austria. Its turquoise-blue color and the small islands make it an extraordinary sight in the midst of forests and mountains. With an area of almost 20 kilometers, it stretches geographically between the cities of Klagenfurt and Villach and is also lined by many small villages. Velden, Pörtschach and Maria Wörth, among others, are located directly on the shore - from dignified strolling places with party possibilities to quiet idylls with postcard motifs. The region is particularly well suited for (water) sports of all kinds, hiking and biking, as well as golfing in neighboring Moosburg. Numerous sights promise varied excursions, including the popular Pyramidenkogel lookout tower, which at almost 100 meters is the world's highest wooden lookout tower. It offers a breathtaking view over Lake Wörthersee and the four-lake valley with Rauschelesee, Keutschacher See, Hafnersee and Baßgeigensee. The brave can take the slide down instead of the elevator.
