VACATION IN DALMATIA

At 72 kilometres in length, the Krka is the longest river in central Dalmatia and, thanks to the 20 kilometres between Knin and Skradin occupied by the Krka National Park, it is also probably the most spectacular one in Europe. The park has two different scenic routes. Tickets to the park and ethnographic museum can be bought at both the Skradin and the Lozovac entrance for 30-95 kuna per person (depending on the season). From Skradin, this price includes a half-hour boat trip, and from Lozovac it includes a shuttle train.

The most impressive and beautiful aspect of the park is the river itself, which runs over seven large waterfalls, as well as dozens of obstructions, bottlenecks and rapids to descend 46 metres over the length of the park, revealing a new and fascinating aspect on every single one.

The Paklenica Canyon, known as the gateway to the national park, is one of its greatest natural phenomena, and is considered the pearl of the Velebit Mountains.

Here, you will find a 150 km long network of hiking paths, including plenty of trekking opportunities. The Canyon stretches from the lake to the interior of the Velebit Mountains. Tourists and alpine hikers can take the path beneath the largest cliff, Anic Kuk (714m), and gaze at the marvellous scenery.

The Vrana Lake is an unusual connection of land and water which offers a refuge to different species of plants and animals, offering them all the necessity for life. The lake is unique for its position and characteristics not only in Croatia but also in other parts of Europe. It is in fact a karst valley filled with brackish water and is below sea-level. Hidden in the reed, bird lovers can experience watching the birds nesting. Vrana Lake is a hot-spot with tremendous diversity of ornithic fauna of 249 recorded bird species, of which 102 nest in the park area. The birds are not the only values of the park. The lake is full of biologically important fish species. This area possesses also many other special features which are discovered on a daily basis.

Modric Cave is 829m long, and the curious visitor is rewarded with facts about cave formation, a guided tour through its passages and chambers, and above all, by the chance to observe the stalactites hanging from the ceiling, the stalagmites growing up from the floor and several other fantastic shapes and forms.
