FALKENSTEINER'S TOUR TIPS
Biker Highlight Großglockner High Alpine Road
48 kilometres, 36 bends and 2,500 metres altitude – the ride on the Großglockner High Alpine Road is a highlight even for passionate and experienced bikers. Along the incomparable motorcycle tour from Carinthia to Salzburg (or vice versa), “milestones” and information boards facilitate the orientation. Specially equipped biker points offer secure storage, repair services and fabulous views. At the ticket office Ferleiten, there is an info point with tour information and an extra cash register for bikers.
The Great Dolomites Road -> approx. 250 km
Get to know the Dolomites at their best. This day tour takes you from your starting point in the direction of Klausen, from where you continue to Val Gardena. At the end of this valley, the tour continues over the Sella Pass (2,187 m), which connects Val Gardena with Canazei in Val di Fassa. Here you will have a wonderful view of the Sassolungo (3,181 m), the Col Rodella (2,485 m), and the Sella massif belonging to Piz Grabla (2,974 m). Further you go over the Pordoi Pass (2,248 m) with fantastic views of the Sass Pordoi, the Sass of the Forca and the Piz Boè (3,152 m), all of them belonging to the Sella group. Continue your ride over the Falzarego Pass (2,105 m) to Cortina d’Ampezzo and past Lake Misurina, from where you can catch a glimpse of the rock massif of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Monte Piana and Monte Cristallo. Through the Höhlensteintal, past the lake Dürrensee you reach Toblach and from there you are soon back at the starting point.
Antholz Valley – Staller Saddle -> approx. 200 km
From your starting point you drive in the direction of the Antholz Valley to the lake Antholzer See (1,645 m), from where you take a mountain road in the direction of Staller Saddle, a mountain pass that connects the Antholz Valley to the Defereggen valley and represents the transition between Rieserferner Group and the Villgraten Mountains. From here, you can look down into the valley as well as over the Antholzer See. Please note: This pass will be closed from the end of October to mid-May, and due to the narrow road width there is a one-way regulation on the Italian side. Now we continue past the lake Obersee and towards the bottom of the Defereggen valley to Erlsbach. From here, head towards Huben, where you take the road towards Lienz. Continue via Sillian and the Hochpustertal back to the starting point.
Drive off from your starting point towards Brixen in the Eisacktal. From here, follow the road up to St. Andrä. First, enjoy the wonderful view over Brixen from there, before you follow the narrow road uphill with signposting “Würzjoch – Passo delle Erbe”. The road leads you over the Kofeljoch (1,863 m) slightly downhill and then uphill again. Soon after, you reach the Würzjoch (2,003 m), the mountain pass that connects the valleys of Eisacktal and Val Badia. We strongly recommend that you spend a few minutes there to experience the breathtaking panorama. You are at the foot of probably the most famous mountain in South Tyrol, the Peitlerkofel, besides the Schlern and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. We continue from Val Badia via Zwischenwasser into the beautiful Puster Valley, from where you return to your starting point.
