There are certain places around the world that I always automatically associate with certain activities. For example, when I think of skiing, Schladming usually springs to mind. That is why I decided to spend the first of my four holidays that I will be undertaking during the "Falkensteiner year of my life" at Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming. I now look back at three glorious, relaxed days and will, from now on, associate Schladming with many more other activities than I was originally aware of. You can read about what they are & what I experienced in Schladming in my first blog article.
Sunshine skiing & spring feelings in Schladming
A brilliant blue sky and mild spring temperatures. This is the welcome Schladming gave us on our first day. The trip to the city of Salzburg was short and from the moment we arrived, it was all but love at first sight. Nestled on the shores of the Enns, only a few minutes' walk away from the Planai mountain railway, yet an oasis of peace, away from all the frenzy and noise. Also, you have a breathtaking panorama of the Dachstein mountain massif.
We were very warmly welcomed upon our arrival and felt at home right from the start. It becomes clear right in the entrance area that the architects of this building are masters of their craft, for I have seldom seen another hotel as simultaneously traditional and modern. The light-flooded lobby is the building's heart. With regard to the furniture, special care was taken to use as many regional and natural products as possible to preserve the fresh Styrian charm.
Soon after we had checked into our rooms, we decided to explore our surroundings. The Enns riverbanks lie directly behind the Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming where many panorama hiking trails begin. Not just nature enthusiasts, but also romantics and seekers of peace and quiet will find exactly what they are looking for here.
My friend and I then returned to the hotel, coming away from our long spring walk bursting with unforgettable impressions. After so much fresh air, we were very much looking forward to dinner. Everyone goes into culinary rapture at the hotel restaurant "Steirer". For, aside from the light, Mediterranean cuisine, there are also many regional Styrian delicacies to enjoy. This is simply the perfect finale to every day of our holiday. In the evenings you can also can sip drinks at the hotel bar "GenießBAR" and conclude the day by the open fireside.
On the second day, our alarm went off at 6 o'clock in the early morning, because my friend and I had resolved to be the first to hit the slopes. At the breakfast buffet, we fortified ourselves for the day, feasting our way through the seemingly endless, delectable buffet.
Only a 5 minutes' walk away from the Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming lies the Planai lift station. All those who arrive without ski equipment can inquire about adequate ski equipment at the reception and rent it from a local partner sports dealer.
Since only four days before, I had been sitting in the Mirabell Gardens of Salzburg in over 20°C weather, I was afraid skiing in late March would be possible only with difficulty. But when we reached the mountain station, it felt like the deepest winter. Perfectly groomed slopes and a perfect winter panorama erased any lingering fears. An amazing winter holiday can be had, even at this time of year. The 4-Mountain Ski Link - Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen, and Reiteralm have 123 kilometres of non-stop slopes to offer. And if you are as much a past master at stopping for a snack as I am, you have 98 ski huts to look forward to. Bursting with marvellous memories of the snow and with a fresh ski instructor tan on our faces, we also concluded the second day of our holiday in the delightful "Steirer" hotel restaurant.
The focus of our last day in Schladming was the hotel's own Acquapura SPA wellness world. The 1,500 sq. m. spa area features an indoor and an outdoor pool incl. whirl loungers, a large variety of saunas, 4 quiet rooms – one of them even with fragrant mountain hay, massage and treatment booths with daylight, a panorama fitness room and much, much more. What more could the wellness enthusiast desire? To conclude the day, we enjoyed a massage with a view of the natural landscape, and should all else fail, a treat like that will put even the most hard-nosed, strung out guest at peace!
My friend and I genuinely enjoyed every second of our stay and were particularly impressed by our host's warm-hearted manner and the stunning natural setting. What's more, I also discovered that the Schladming-Dachstein region is much more than just a winter sports resort; it is also a paradise for hikers, lovers of nature and those aspiring to be. This should be motivation enough to book a holiday at Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming soon & to find out for yourself!
I for my part will be headed South soon, to a seaside Falkensteiner hotel in... But then again, just let me surprise you! Follow Falkensteiner Hotels on the social media channels and don't miss any news. ;)
