LEISURE TIME at Hotel Meran 2000

South Tyrol has a unique geography, landscape and culture. Its location between southern and central Europe has shaped its character, lands, architecture and of course its cuisine. Spontaneous and reliable, Mediterranean and Alpine, knödel and spaghetti.

You will also find this unique variety in our hotel’s leisure time activities. We have prepared a few tips for you:

Castle Tyrol with raptor show
The home castle of the counts of Tyrol above Meran also gave the entire province its name. The castle is now also home to a provincial museum dedicated to the history, culture and traditions of the “land in the mountains”.
Hours: from 31 March to 11 November 2012 from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, from 1 to 31 August until 18:00, closed Mondays

A raptor centre where injured and ill birds are rehabilitated and where you can view a show with these impressive hunters is located close by the castle.

Spa and culture city Meran
Empress Sissi went to Meran for its spa. Its Mediterranean climate, southern vegetation and imposing Alpine backdrop with the towering peaks of the Texel Group set a wonderful stage for this luxurious international health resort.

Even today, the traditional grape cures and Sissi baths attract many visitors year after year. There is also the new Meran spa, the largest hot spring in South Tyrol.

Meran itself has a broadly varied entertainment and cultural programme. The highlights are the opera spring, the music weeks in late summer and the International Wine Festival and Culinaria. The city’s landmark is the Meran Kurhaus, an art nouveau jewel, and other important sights include the historical arbours, the spa promenade and the provincial government castle.

Trauttmansdorf Castle and its gardens
The 80 nature and culture landscapes from around the world and the many artistic installations in the castle gardens make Trauttmansdorf Castle the most popular destination in South Tyrol for day trips. The castle is also a venue for different musical and culinary events and the home of the South Tyrolean provincial museum for tourism.
Hours: 1 April to 15 November from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm (no admission after 5:00 pm), from 15 May to 15 September from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm (no admission after 8:00 pm), open daily.

Horseback riding in Hafling
Hafling is a veritable Mecca for horseback riders. The various stables offer rides as a way to discover the region’s breathtaking natural panoramas. Gallop through pristine landscapes or let yourself be enchanted by a romantic coach ride.

We have an inside tip for all horse lovers: The Haflinger herd is pastured every year from the beginning of July to the end of September. This is your chance to see the horses galloping freely about the Alpine meadows and tossing their golden manes. All you have to do to take in this spectacle is look out your apartment window.

Archeoparc – discover Ötzi’s world

MMM – Messner Mountain Museum
The “15th 8,000 metres” in the life of Reinhold Messner, possibly the most famous native of South Tyrol, is more than a museum – it is five at different sites. A collection of museums presenting the mountain and its legacy. Each of the museums is dedicated to a special topic, and the main museum is located in Castle Sigmundskron near Bolzano.
MMM Firmian (Castle Sigmundskron), MMM Ortles (Sulden – glaciers and ice), MMM Dolomites (Cortina – rock and mountain climbing), MMM Juval (Vinschgau – the myths of the mountain) and MMM Ripa (Bruneck – mountain peoples).

Naturns children’s and adventure rail station
Come and experience a very special kind of train ride with a nostalgic trolley on a decommissioned track with a length of over 500 metres. The station building, which is decorated with Asian wood carvings, is from the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
